Colani trucks in their coat of Glasurit® colors
The Glasurit® paint job completes the futuristic design

With their aeronautical curves, the trucks designed by Professor Luigi Colani nearly resemble a spaceship. The Berlin native has been working on the development of these futuristic tractor trailers since the 1950s. Inspired by nature, Colani designs the truck bodies in streamline form in order to achieve especially low air resistance values (Cw values) and in turn greatly lower fuel consumption, lending his trucks unique ecological and economical efficiency. For his current

model, Glasurit®’s VOC-compliant 68 Line HS 2K CV Topcoat is making a first-class contribution to this efficiency. That’s because the high-quality paint produced by BASF Coatings AG meets the tough requirements the star designer poses for his work materials and the production of his trucks.

Friedrich Schramm, the owner of the Schramm vehicle production company, agrees with this 100 percent. He knows his way around the production of the designer trucks. Five years ago Schramm, who works out of the Cologne district of Fühlingen, received his first job order from Professor Colani. Schramm’s company now owns the exclusive marketing rights for Colani’s best-known semi, the CF 95 DAF model. Every Colani truck is unique and is specially produced according to its particular use. The extraordinary trucks are rarely used as commercial vehicles per se.

Instead, the unique tractor trailers are used for marketing purposes. Colani’s trucks transport image and support brands. Their eye-catching exterior sets them apart from regular truck models. And the perfect paint job with Glasurit is the finishing touch for the futuristic forms. “The paint has to be high quality and durable,” says Schramm, explaining why he decided to go with Glasurit. And when it comes to the materials for the truck body, Colani also has high standards for quality. State of the art glass-fiber reinforced plastics are used for the paneling. Blue tinted side windows make up the roof and windshield of the cab. The capsule form, as well as other sleek characteristics, conjure up aeronautical associations. As in aeronautical technology, the window panes are completely made of acrylic.

Under the Glasurit brand, BASF markets a comprehensive range of automotive refinishing paint systems, focusing on eco-efficient waterborne basecoats and high-solids paints. By using these systems all legal solvent-reduction requirements can be complied with anywhere in the world, and with regard to appearance and resistance, the products meet the same quality standards as solvent-borne paints. In this area, the company offers a wide variety of services to support its customers. Glasurit Automotive Refinish is approved by most of the leading car manufacturers for aftermarket repair worldwide and chosen by them for its color expertise.
