Assessment criteria and categories
The highly qualified group of jury members discussed the submitted products in strict consideration of the specified assessment criteria: Degree of innovation, design quality, technological aspect, workmanship, choice of materials, environmental compatibility, functionality, practical value, safety, brand value/branding and feasibility in the case of concept submissions in the Student Award category. The products and concepts may be submitted in the following categories:

Material Category
Newly developed and already existing materials may be submitted.

In this category products from all branches of the economy may be submitted on condition that they are already subject to serial production or incorporate new or already known materials or material properties.

Surface & Technology Category
This category focuses on new surfaces and manufacturing processes.

CO2 Efficiency Category
Climatic changes and environmental pollution are intensified by CO2 emissions in particular. Materials and lightweight design technologies can help reduce CO2 emissions. The MATERIALICA CO2 Efficiency Award, which is granted alongside the MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award, is a clear message sent by MunichExpo. Carbon dioxide produced during manufacturing, service life and for the disposal of material and products will be evaluated.

The student award is endowed with prize money of EUR 1,500
The annual student award is granted each year to excellent design newcomers and is endowed with prize money of EUR 1,500. This award seeks to promote and support young designers in their study phase. Students may submit their ideas in all mentioned categories.
